Online Resources and Video: Blog #2

I love teaching about the Underground Railroad and found this video that I could use for my unit next year. It is so much more intersting to learn about the Underground Railroad and anything regarding history when presented with a visual. I found this video on TeacherTube.

Here is the resource I chose to share:

  http://www.pppst.com/

How will I use this online resource to make a permanent change in the way I teach?

There are so many ways I can use this resource in my classroom! It will definetly make a permanent change in the classroom. Here is how:

1. I can begin making review games more fun in class by using the templates for Powepoint that they have such as "Who Wants to be a Millionaire," and "Jeopardy." I can change it to put questions I have about the subject matter that we are discussing and use it as an assessment for them!

2. There is a video section that is categorized by subject that they have on the website that I can use for lessons I teach.

3. I can allow the students to play the fun interactive learning games that the sight has to offer.

4. I can learn more about special needs children from the website and look up specific things about special needs children to help me when I have a question that needs answering.

5. I can use the website to incorporate clip art into my newsletters, PowerPoint's, etc.

6. I can teach my students about how to make a PowerPoint with the tutorial section on the website.

7. I can teach my students using the various PowerPoint the website has to offer.

8. I can use this website to add technology to my lesson plans!

9. I can use the PowerPoint on this website to learn more about a subject before I teach it.

10. Since I teach at a Christian school, I am constantly looking for resources for my Bible lessons. There was a lot of great items on this website for me to use under " Free Interactive Activities for Kids."

  1. Wow! What an awesome website. This will be so beneficial in my classroom to provide so many different types of activities. I love that the kids can use it, too. One challenge for me is navigating through a site with so much information. It always takes so much time. However, this site is broken into different categories which makes it so much easier!

  2. You really got that Jinga thing--the images make your site easy to follow. I still haven't practiced with capturing images. Since you teach at a Christian school, you might want to check out this site: http://www.wingclips.com/. It has movie clips that can be used for lesson illustrations.

  3. I love your video! I have always loved learning about The Underground Railroad.
This video correlates so well with other subjects. While studying the Underground Railroad you could have the music teacher teach "Follow the Drinking Gourd".
You can also teach about Harriett Tubman and the other slaves and than relate it to Martin Luther King and the Civil Rights Movement

    - Your website is wonderful. I always want to make review games using ideas such as Jeopardy or Who Wants to be A Millionaire but never seem to have enough time. These templates really seem to be user friendly. Thanks for the recommendation!!

  4. Wow, what a beneficial resource. I can't wait to be able to use it with my students next year. The technology teacher at our school teaches our fifth grade how to do powerpoints so what a great way for me to teach across the curriculum!

A challenge for me will be the fact that I only have 4 student computers in my classroom and open lab time is limited. The technology teacher has her own standards she needs to cover and only sees the kids a minimal amount of time. I will persevere though! Of course there is always the issue of when technology decides to work--you know, you have those days when it seems nothing is working technology wise; always have a back-up plan=)
